About Us

Hi, I’m Tim, and I’ve been taking my family to France for over 20 years.

What started as a tentative first ferry crossing with three young children has become an annual tradition that’s shaped our family life. We’ve explored Normandy beaches, camped in the countryside, navigated Paris, and discovered countless hidden gems – all accessed through the cross channel ferry routes including the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry.

This site exists because I wish I’d had it 20 years ago.

Tim – Father, France enthusiast, and ferry travel advocate

Why I Created This Site

**The truth is, family travel to France shouldn’t be complicated or expensive.**

But for years, I found myself piecing together information from dozens of sources – ferry timetables here, campsite reviews there, conflicting advice everywhere. Every trip meant hours of research, cross-referencing, and hoping I’d made the right decisions.

I wanted to create the comprehensive resource I needed: everything about traveling to France, in one place, written by someone who’s actually done it with kids countless times.

Not a corporate travel site. Not generic advice from people who’ve never taken this ferry. Real experience from a real family.

Our Family’s France Story

**2004 – THE FIRST CROSSING:**

Our first crossing wasn’t on the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry crossing it was in actual fact the Plymouth to Roscoff. One child under 5, mountains of luggage (we overpacked spectacularly), and absolutely no idea what we were doing.

**THE LEARNING CURVE:**

Over the next few years, we learned what works and what doesn’t:

• That you DON’T need to pack your entire house.
• That booking the ferry months ahead saves £100+ (learned the hard way)
• That kids actually prefer camping to hotels
• That Dieppe’s Saturday market is worth timing your whole trip around
• That the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach moves everyone to tears, including teenagers

**TWENTY YEARS LATER:**

My children are now teenagers and adults. We have travelled the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry multiple times. The youngest still asks every year, “Are we doing France again?”

We’ve stayed at multiple different campsites, with Eurocamp, Canvas Holidays and direct with the site. We’ve driven to Paris, the Ardeche, Dordogne, Brittany, Normandy, the Loire and many more fantastic towns, cities and regions. We’ve walked Omaha Beach in blazing sunshine and pouring rain. We’ve eaten over 10,000 croissants.

And we’ve never once regretted choosing the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry route.

Why Newhaven-Dieppe?

People often ask why we don’t use the Dover to Calais or Portsmouth to Caen Ferry.

**The short answer:** We do! But it depends on where in France we are going, when we want to get there and how far we have to travel. The Newhaven to Dieppe ferry is perfect for many locations in France.

**The longer answer:**

✅ **Normandy is incredible** – D-Day history, stunning coast, real France, not tourist trap
✅ **Dieppe is charming** – Proper French town, not just a ferry port
✅ **The route works** – Overnight crossing means you arrive fresh, kids sleep on board
✅ **It’s affordable** – Consistently cheaper than alternatives, especially for families
✅ **Less stressful** – Smaller port, easier navigation, more relaxed

After 20+ crossings, I can navigate Newhaven Ferry Port with my eyes closed.

What Makes This Site Different

**REAL EXPERIENCE:**

Every guide on this site comes from either actual experience or research. The campsite recommendations? We’ve stayed at many and we have so much experience of Eurocamp. The Normandy itineraries? We’ve driven many of the routes and been to most of the D-Day sites. The advice about travelling with kids? Hard-won from years of trial and error.

I’m not a travel blogger visiting once for a sponsored post. I’m a father who’s done this journey, with the same challenges you face: limited budget, tired kids, too much luggage, and hoping everyone has a good time.

There are no affiliate links influencing recommendations (though some booking links help support the site). The advice is genuine – what I’d tell a friend planning their first crossing.

Our Mission

**To help British families discover France the way we did.**

Not expensive package holidays. Not rushed weekend city breaks. But proper, relaxed, affordable family holidays where kids run around Norman campsites, explore castles, swim at beaches, eat ice cream in harbor towns, and come home with memories that last.

The Newhaven to Dieppe route makes this possible. It’s the gateway to authentic France that’s accessible, affordable, and absolutely worth it.

**If we can help one family:**
– Save money by booking at the right time
– Avoid our mistakes (and we’ve made plenty)
– Discover Normandy’s incredible history and beauty
– Have the confidence to try camping instead of expensive hotels
– Create their own 20 years of France family holidays

Then this site has been worth creating.

A Final Note

Twenty years ago, I was a nervous parent boarding a ferry with three small children, hoping we’d made the right decision.

Today, those ferry crossings are among our family’s most treasured memories.

If this site helps your family create even a fraction of these memories, then every hour spent writing it has been worthwhile.

*”Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” – Anonymous*

It’s true. Twenty years of France holidays haven’t made us financially richer (quite the opposite!), but we’re immeasurably richer in experiences, memories, and family bonds.
